Writing on Medium Can Be an Addiction
Life is an addiction, anything can become an addiction — good ones, keep them and the others, let them fly out of the window.
I have not been writing for just a couple of days and it has been such a tough two-day period for me. Not writing is terrible. My mother suddenly developed very severe body ache and being 91+ she had to be handled with kid’s gloves. I’ve been occupied with caregiving on a more intense level, but at the back of my mind, the Medium platform was beckoning me — shrieking in my brain, calling for attention. So as she rests, I am taking a little time off to indulge myself.
It is with such ease that we are told to give up addictions — smoking, drinking, binging on Netflix, or whatever it is. It is the one who is addicted who bears the brunt of the world’s criticisms. Everything has its repercussions; whatever the addictions may be and the phasing out period as well has a story to tell.
Psychologically, addicts are in pain. Knowing the drawbacks and the side effects, yet being in the eye of the storm is not easy.

So, to put it simply, addiction is sheer over-indulgence. On life’s journey, we pick up lots of things. Some of them can be addictions. Once you pick these up, how you coddle them is what matters. Fuel it, it gathers speed, manure it and it will grow lusciously. So, you choose what you want to do with them.
For me, Medium is a beautiful addiction. It makes my life richer, not just with what I put out there but by what I get to read and understand from others’ perspectives. It is just such a beautiful garden with the most beautiful presentations, all of which can be enjoyed — kudos to Medium and all its writers. Such a great place to be part of.
